The Grizzly Triathlon

Hellgate ARC members provide for public service and emergency radio communications for hundreds of runners, bikers and swimmers. Some members even compete in this event.

Club members will be located at strategic locations along the route. It is usually finished by early afternoon and then we normally get together at Tower Pizza or the MO Club for burgers at club expense. Those helping can give the HARC event coordinator their choice for the after-event get together. A good activity to get involved with if you haven't participated in any of these events in the past. More Grizzly Triathlon information...

Grizzly Man

Another event we've been asked to help at is the new Grizzly Man Adventure Race, in April in the Lubrecht Forest near Greenough. This is an exciting race, and with the remote location, our communication support is of great value to them. More information...

The Riverbank Run

Hellgate ARC members provide for public service and emergency radio communications for hundreds of runners. Some members even compete in this event.

Club members will be located at strategic locations along the route. It is usually finished by early afternoon and then we normally get together at Tower Pizza or the MO Club for burgers at club expense. Tour of the Swan River Valley (TOSRV)

Members of the Hellgate Amateur Radio Club provide safety and emergency communications as a public service for this annual 200 mile bike ride. Over 200 riders traditionally peddle their way up the Blackfoot River, through Seeley Lake and onto Big Fork for the night. Most riders are back in Missoula by Sunday afternoon. More information ...

Field Day

Field Day usually kicks off Saturday morning at 7:00 AM at the Paradise Falls Restaurant, then move to the “old chapel” (next to the new building) at Fort Missoula by 9:00 AM to begin setup. We plan to start transmitting at noon and we want to man the radios the full 24 hours until noon Sunday when we plan to tear down (need help).

In the past we have had hoagies for Saturday lunch and a Pot Luck Dinner at 6:00 PM Saturday evening for those members who participate in field day.

July 4 at the Fort - W7PX Special Event

HARC will again be operating a special event station at Fort Missoula on July 4.    This is an opportunity to show off ham radio to the public on a very special day in our country’s history.   Our HF station is advertised in July QST, and many hams will be looking for us on that date.   We need help, but more importantly it is a fun time on a fun day with many festivities at Fort Missoula.

Missoula Marathon July

An extremely fun event for club members that participate! We need 12+ HARC members that we can post throughout the valley to help support this event. Click here for more information.

Blackfoot River Cleanup!

Join W4YMA, Bill and other hams providing communications for this annual event. If you have VHF capability, especially a mobile unit and an interest to assist, please contact Bill on the 147.04 MHz report or at billfarrell@hotmail.com. The cleanup begins 8:00 AM. For 2011, meet at Johnsrud’s Park. The park is approximately 10 miles East of Bonner on highway #200 and then about a mile North up the Johnsrud’s Park road. Talk-in on 146.520 MHz. A free barbeque follows the cleanup!

Scouts Jamboree On The Air

JOTA is an annual event in which Boy and Girl Scouts and Guides from all over the world speak to each other by means of Amateur (ham) Radio. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared via radio waves. Since 1958 when the first Jamboree-on-the-Air was held, millions of Scouts have met each other through this event. Many contacts made during JOTA have resulted in pen pals and links between Scout troops that have lasted many years. More information...   Past events...

SKYWARN Recognition Day

A 24 hour (0000-2400 UTC, 5PM-5PM MST) demonstration of amateur radio capability and National Weather Service cooperation. Join Hellgate ARC members and other participants operating radio equipment from the National Weather Service office, just west of the Missoula Airport Terminal off Broadway. We begin to set up on Friday, 3 PM and finish near 5PM, Saturday. Please help out and have fun operating. For more information click here.
