4th of July at the Fort Cancelled

Dear Friends, Members, and our Community,

The Historical Museum has extended our temporarily closure for the safety, health and well-being of our guests, members, partners, volunteers, and staff through at least June 1st.

The closure does not impact the grounds, which are open and a wonderful place to burn off some energy while connecting with your community’s past.

To help everyone through this difficult moment the HMFM team will be sharing local history, virtual tours, learning opportunities for our youth, puzzles and games, and weekly scavenger hunts to use while exploring the Museum grounds.

Be sure to keep an eye on the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula’s Facebookand Instagram sites for stories and fun activities all about the places and people we love, as we will be posting much more frequently. Contact Jessie Rogers at if you have ideas of things you would like us to share.

Also, as many of you know we rely on your Donations and memberships to keep our state ‘s history preserved and relevant. We understand that these times are not easy for any of us, but if you have the ability to support your local cultural and service institutions, we are especially thankful.

Contact Matt Lautzenheiser, Executive Director Ph# 406 -258-3471 or email him for any questions or concerns.

Due to COVID 19 concerns we have suspended all group rentals on site until further notice. If you have questions, please call:
Carolyn Thompson, 258-3478 or email

As a community organization, our primary concern is the safety and well-being of the Missoula Community. Please remember to social distance when you are enjoying the grounds of the Historical Museum.

HMFM is here for you now and will be here when we all come out on the other side. And when that happens, we can ‘t wait to celebrate this wonderful community and our shared history with you! Thank you for your understanding at this challenging time for our country.

Please stay well,

Matt Lautzenheiser, Executive Director
Historical Museum at Fort Missoula
